New Year. New You? (What does this even mean)

I recently read this “catchphrase” for enticing people to enroll in gym memberships and I thought it was offensive, so…I thought I would write about it.
I don’t know about you but I am not looking for a new me. I am looking to enhance and embrace who I already am. It’s a process. I educate people on this process , introducing ways to live a more effortless way to be in one’s body through movement nutrition and touch.

We live in a culture that is constantly telling us that we are no good and that we have to “fix” ourselves. It is an endless cycle that I try to dispel the moment someone walks into my studio.

Let’s start here. There is nothing wrong with you. It’s utter bullshit. This idea that there is something that needs fixing is propaganda, making you feel lesser than.

You are perfect the way you are. You are meant to be where you are, in this very moment. You do not need a new you! You may desire other options to choose from as opposed to old atrophied patterns of living in your body. Think of these patterns as old railroad tracks that have been laid down for centuries and you are just meandering down the same line of tracks. These tracks can be “refreshed’ by adding new spirals and maps.

Reaching into 2022

Finding other options to inhabit your body can be daunting and/or it can be exciting to explore with curiosity in the what ifs. That doesn’t mean what you are doing is wrong. Having choices gives you access to variabilities that you may be looking for.

We all have habitual movement patterns that cause compensations in our body. Over time these compensations can catch up to you, which may cause discomfort. There are ways to find your way out of that discomfort.

Exploring other movement modalities and become curious will open new pathways of inhabiting your body.

I invite you feel into the space you inhabit and notice any sensations that arise. Go on an open ended discovery.

Try letting go of the idea that you need to fix yourself or that something is wrong with you is one of the first steps and it takes practice (like everything). Again, PROCESS.

Let 2022 be a year you pause in the pause , become curious about the endless possibilities of being in your body and be kind to yourself in the process.
